Jessica Cerda  she/her

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #124297

I was born and raised in Southern California in a traditional Latinx household. I moved away for college and discovered my independence when I attended San Diego State University for a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Spanish. After going into the workforce, I uncovered my passion for therapeutic practices. I found my true purpose when I pursued and completed my Master’s degree in Couple and Family Therapy from Alliant International University.

Working with me

In my therapeutic practice, I seek to truly understand and validate my clients’ experiences. No two people or life experiences are the same and by continuously remaining curious about my clients’ experiences, it’s amazing how far back we can uncover unhealed trauma, history, and patterns. I often approach therapy through a Family Systems perspective, which allows us to dig beyond the self and analyze how our family of origin, relationships, and/or intergenerational patterns influence how we have come to understand the world and our behaviors. I also enjoy utilizing interventions based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy, among others.
I specialize in working with children, adolescents, young adults and families.

I strive to create an open, comfortable and warm environment in therapy. Clients often describe me as empathetic, curious, humorous and playful. I don’t think therapy has to always be a serious matter and I enjoy having fun with it whenever that’s possible.
